While we tend to laugh at these type of memes, do you believe this is truly how women are perceived in our society? Do you think that these types of memes create a positive or negative impact on women or do they have any impact at all?

I don't believe people actually perceive women in this way... These are just jokes, there are plenty of jokes about men also. It does give a negative impact on women whether its a joke or not. The "maybe that's why they get paid less" is a little too far and is an issue in some places still. So I don't think we should joke around about that. But women don't need to take these jokes too seriously cause there are similar jokes about men also.

I agree with you on the part about women don't need to take it to seriously because there is jokes about men too. But even though we think women shouldn't take it to seriously some women do. And I think men don't get teased about it as much as women do. And that's not right. I think it doesn't create a big negative impact toward men as it does women. I think the reason for that is because men are never really seriously. They joke about everything so they don't take it too seriously like women do.

I agree. Women don't need to take these types of things so seriously since they are just jokes and it's not like they don't hear them all the time. I also agree that there are some statements that should be left unsaid but in the end there's always something that could be said back about men. These jokes can work both ways, but for some reason women always seem to take the harder hit. Maybe its because they're more sensitive or something, I don't know.

I agree with Breanna. I believe that what some women perceive as sexism is really just a simple joke made by a male. I would also agree that sometimes, because of our human nature, us males can take these jokes too far. I don't think that superiority over someone should be made light of, and some males view themselves as more superior. So, I do agree with Breanna on all of the points that she made, and I also believe that there is no superior sex, and that men and women are equal.

I don't really think this is how women in society are perceived, but I guess it depends on the type of person's attitude. Certain things can be taken a little bit too far sometimes though. Including comments on how men work harder or whatever which is clearly NOT true. I don't really think the memes have an impact on women at all because they aren't really serious, and I guess women have kind of gotten used to these stereotypical sexist jokes.

I don't think this is how woman is perceived by the whole society. I think there are some people do think woman as a second class citizen but that is because that was how it was a long time ago. I feel these were just jokes people made to be funny, I don't think they took they seriously. I do see how they can have a negative view of woman but there are some about men. The last one was how men are expected to be gentleman and some woman think they are just being sexist because they were trying to be nice. But on the other hand I think that these do not degrade women in any way they are funny and should be taken that way by anyone with that kinda of sense of humor. I wouldn't necessarily say that sexism isn't a, "big thing" or not a problem, because it is. Maybe not as noticeable in the United States, but in other countries such as India or Honduras, it is. My second time in Guatemala, I helped in the clinic some. There was a man and his wife and the wife needed surgery. Do you know what the man said? "I would have to sell one of my cows. I will find another wife instead." If that isn't a, "big thing" then I don't know what is. Is that considered comedy? That all over the world women are degraded and struggling to get an education so they don't have to be stereotypical and rely on a man to provide for them. Families send boys to school instead of the girls. The girls in the family grow up taking care of younger siblings and doing housework, just sending them back into the cycle of poverty! In China, boys are more valuable than girls. It's less common to see a boy adopted from China than a girl, unless the boy is physically or mentally deformed. Even in history, Henry the 8th wanted a male heir because he didn't think a daughter could rule as well as a son could. Why do you think men got away with raping women in parts of India for so long? Because over there along with many other places around the globe, women are WORTHLESS. They are viewed as nothing more than objects!!! Do you realize that some women still get paid less than men for doing the same job?? I know that in my comment I said that I find the memes funny, but I don't agree with sexism not being present in today's society. So I'm not trying to be a hypocrite, but this response is mainly directed towards your statement that "Sexism isn't a big thing, and people should take it as a joke". My argument was aimed just at the memes and whether or not if women are perceived that way today. Sexism IS a big thing today Austin, and there is NOTHING humorous about it.

I agree with Grace that sexism is an issue; however, generally speaking, in the United States women are treated fairly. Therefore I find the stereotypes kind of funny. There will always be racism and sexism in this world. We are simply and utterly human. As to the memes being offensive, I think it all depends on the female looking at them. One may find them funny and another, degrading. Personally I find the memes funny. The fact is, women were objectified in the past. They were good for cooking, cleaning, and taking care of children. The memes shown aren't necessarily directed towards the population of females today, but the women of the past. Also, I mean the more time that passes, the more that the stereotype of women will change and then become normal. An example would be single mothers. In the past is was frowned upon to be a single mom. Now single mothers account for a lot of family units. Society molds sexism over time.

The glass cieling is a very real thing but it's not the fact that women do less work than men that they get payed less it's that in the early 1900's women were only house wives, rarely career women. Women work just as hard or harder than men in most jobs because of their determination. And I don't even want to get started on the other meme. Sexism is often taken for a bad joke. I could tell a sandwich joke right now and would a girl be offended? Yes and no. Some girls laugh, some girls hate. It's all taken upon by the minds deception. Sexism isn't always a bad thing though. For instance. If a guy works at a hair salon and is doing a girls nails its most likely not going to look great. It'll come out looking a little funny. We don't have sturdy hands. Admit it. We can't do nails. Why am I talking about nails.

I think it is very wrong to look at women and think they are not as "strong" or independent as men. Females can do things just as well as males, sometimes better. Males expect so much from the females. However, I don't think people are as sexist as they used to be, after a while I feel like everyone will be equal.

I don't think it has much of an affect. In all honesty, I think sexism isn't a big part of our society anymore. People used to discriminate against women, but a lot of powerful people now are women. Women have just as good a chance of being somebody as men do. I don't think sexism is that big of a deal in today's society.

I think that it really isnt a big deal to anyone. Girls joke about it just as much as boys do. I find it amusing actually, because we know thats how it used to be. Women and Men arent exactly equal but in most cases they are. Sexism is a big deal. We arent way back in the day when Women stayed home while the men worked.

Yes their jokes, and women shouldn't get mad about it. I mean they have jokes about men too. But also the thing is that some women do get treated bad and for them it isn't funny at all, as well as men. Buts it's a joke, nobody should take it seriously.

Women today aren't really looked at like this. This is Just a simple joke. We all know that a woman can go just about anything a man can do. Just because were women doesn't make us any less capable of doing work.
